Global Views Emma's Bird Pillow
A charming and unusual botanical album quilt made in New York or Maryland about 1860 supplied the inspiration for the "Emma's Quilt" collection. Friends appliqued squares depicting geraniums, fuchsias, bleeding hearts, sunflowers, other fanciful flowers, and birds. They then pieced their squares together to make the quilt as a gift, possibly for a bride. Its central wreath bears a stitched inscription "To Emma—may you my child in virtue['s] way proceed. . . ." Emma's quilt is in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
