The Serengeti statue comes to us from the Dagon people, who are a West African tribe located in Mali. In their belief system, creativity pleases the higher spirits. Consequently, the Dagon began to create display pieces, like our Serengeti statue, out of spiritual pride, religious beliefs, cultural customs and merit-making. Statues of this type represent stylized animal or human figures which are imbued with sacrificial materials as receptacles for spiritual forces and tokens of luck.
